Of Debit Cards and Gas Stations

June 23rd, 2008 by Kevin

Oh, you’re gonna love this.  So I’m driving to my school and back for my Graduation Rehearsal (yes, my graduation is tonight) and I realize I’m VERY low on gas.  Lucky me though, there’s a gas station right near by!  I’ve only payed for gas with cash, never with my Debit Card, but I had no cash, so I decided to just get a little gas with my card.  I ended up only getting a gallon and a half to tide me over, and printed out a receipt for $6.88.  I went back home and about three hours later I had to go to the post office where I had to send out some games for Goozex.  So I get there and get everything all set up to be packaged, the total was $6.23.  My debit card was declined.

But that’s impossible, I just had money put into it this morning!  I should have a good $60.00 in there.  I asked her to try it again, declined.  They had to hold onto the packages until I could pay for the envelopes I put the games in.  I went home to look at my Debit Card’s transactions online to see how much I had.  $0.00 on the nose.  Looking at my transactions, I realized that Mobil took out all $53.23 in my account!  I immediately printed out the page, grabbed the receipt and went back to the gas station to see what was going on.

The gas station attendant was not happy to see me.  I began talking to him, explaining my situation, showing him both the receipt and the transaction list I printed out.  “Can you come in tomorrow?  My boss isn’t in today.” was my immediate response from the person.  I explained to him how it was important I get my money back before tonight, as it was graduation night and that was all of my money.  “There’s nothing we can do, can you please come back tomorrow when my boss is in?” suddenly this lady pushes him out of the way to talk to me.

“What seems to be the trouble sir?” she asks in that snippy tone that no one on earth can stand.  I reexplain my situation to her only to be told “Sir, we did nothing wrong, it must be a problem with your credit card.”  I ask her if I can please see any kind of manager.  “I am the manager, and there is nothing we can do for you, you have to talk with your credit card company, maybe they can resolve it in a few days.”  This was obviously getting me nowhere, I knew they were just dodging the problem and wanted me gone, so rather than prolong anything, I just left.

I called up my credit card company, buncha nice people, really.  Their automated phone service was fast and easy, I was on hold in less than a minute to talk to someone, and I immediately got my answer.  Apparently, gas stations have decided that because so many people have been paying for gas without having enough money on their card to pay for it, they now take out about $100 at the start of every transaction (or in my case $53.23, as it’s all that I have), that way you can only get as much gas as you can afford.  They are supposed to pay you back all of the money you didn’t pump out of the $100, but it takes about 2 buissness days to do so.

This is ridiculous!  All of my money is gone now, and I won’t have it back in time for my graduation night tonight.  I love how the so called manager of the gas station had no idea what could possibly be wrong, and how they don’t tell you ANYWHERE they charge you $100 at the start of every pump!  This is absolutely ludicrous, and it’s not right at all.  From now on, I’m never pumping at Mobil again.  I warn ALL Mobil customers, DO NOT USE DEBIT CARDS!

College, it’s not just for geniuses anymore.

By some large miracle, I was actually accepted into college!  Ladies and Gentlemen, if you ever needed proof that god exists, this stunt should be more than enough.  I’m definatly going to live on campus, I want that whole college experience.  I just hope I don’t get stuck with some roommate that will be my exact opposite, I could picture it now, a hardcore emo jock who hates games and beats nerds on a daily basis. XD  I do beleive I will enjoy college though, wish me luck. ^_^

It’s Beginning to Look Alot Like… Christmas?

November 20th, 2007 by Kevin

Um… did I miss something here? So let me get this straight, Thanksgiving is only 1 and a half days away… and stores are already celebrating Christmas… Why? Granted, I love Christmas, ALOT! It’s a great holiday, and it brings people together with gifts and food and gifts and love and… gifts… anyway bottom line, I love it. But come on people, we hardly need to get everything set up a month before, it hasn’t even been Thanksgiving yet. One holiday at a time please! But, I suppose it’s just the Market’s way of saying “Give me more money.”

So yeah, life’s kinda boring right now, I haven’t had a full school week in quite a while, so we do very little in school right now, it is really more of a waste of time then normal. It snowed today for about a good 2 hours, and hard! I almost thought we were going to be sent home early, but then I remembered, my school sucks. Screw student safety, we can just blame it on the budget not being high enough! :P (Yes, my school really is like that.) But yeah, I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving this year, it’s going to be different from usual because we are bringing our family to a fancy restaurant instead of holding it at home, which I am very happy for. Preparation’s a bitch. XD Well, life goes on, see ya next time.

Monstas!

November 9th, 2007 by Kevin

If Final Fantasy and Pokemon ever had sex, I am pretty sure that “Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker” would be the offspring.  Granted, I am an Squenix fanboy, but that doesn’t change the fact that this game is pretty awesome!  The game plays like any other Dragon Quest game, the only difference being you don’t battle with humans, you battle with the monsters of the Dragon Quest series.  The environments are all 3D which is awesome for a DS game, not to mention they are pretty detailed, and there are tons of monsters to battle and scout.

The battling is downright cool.  Every monster has their own abilities, and just like in other Dragon Quest games, as you level up, you get skill points to aquire new skills, or powerups.   Not only that, but the Scouting system is pretty creative.  Instead of games like Pokemon where you weaken the monster and catch it, your current Monster party will try to impress the monster by showing them how strong they are, so the stronger your monsters, the higher your chances of Scouting the monsters!  I haven’t played too far into the game yet, but it looks like it will be alot of fun, and of course there is WiFi!  Online battles, YAY! :D

Now to get back to the game, latta guys! :D

PS. send my your friend codes if you have this game, I’ll be starting WiFi soon!

My latest video game!

November 2nd, 2007 by Kevin

I seriously don’t update this thing enough. XD

So, currently in school, I am taking a computer seminar class, which means I get an hour and a half every day to do whatever the hell I want as long as I “learn something”. So, I thought it would be cool to work in LUA, and create something 3D for the PSP. After much deliberation, I decided to create a Random 3D Maze Generator, I call it MazeGen3D (Lol, aren’t I original).

I originally thought this would be a small project, and I would move onto something else soon after, but this project has been so cool, I am defiantly seeing this one through till the end. Here’s some screenshots of what the newest released version looks like:

Currently it can:

  • Create Random Mazes ranging from 15-100 x 15-100 blocks big
  • Render them in 3D form
  • Listen to MP3s as you play
  • Save Created Mazes

I’ve gotten many cool suggestions though, and right now (in the build I’m working on) I have added some cool stuff such as a PacMan Mode, where the player goes around the maze collecting all the dots and avoiding the ghosts (or eating them of course).

And of course some other cool stuff, that no one knows about yet. If any of you out there have a hacked PSP, go check out this program and PLEASE tell me what you think, I promise it will only get better. ;)

You can find out more and download it here!

Now if you’ll all excuse me, I’m off to play more Metroid Prime 3.  Cheers!

Webcomics are fun!

September 5th, 2007 by Kevin

Well, I am a big fan of gaming webcomics, and I finally found another awesome one to read while I wait for VGCats. :P I recently stumbled across F@NBOY$, the gaming webcomic with something for everyone. It has a lot of original stuff that you really don’t see in other webcomics, and over 200 strips. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking it out, just a warning, you will never look at Mr. Peanut the same. :P Enjoy!

Do you believe in miracles?

June 28th, 2007 by Kevin

I am now happily reunited with my laptop. About a month ago, the hinges on the screen finally gave up on me, after 5 months of refusing to close, and broke. Luckily, I called it in for repairs 3 days before my warranty expired (yay). It took about a month of me being stuck on a REALLY crappy comptuer, but FINALLY, my laptop has come back to me, fully repaired. I am still fearful it may break the same way again, some day, but for now, I am happy.

OH BUT WAIT! THE DAY GETS BETTER! :D About 4 hours earlier today, I was at my local Gamestop, a place I go to often looking for a Wii. Every time I go in, my first question is “Any Wiis in today?” And the usual response would be “no”. But today, I do believe there is a god, because he granted me 1 Wii! I have played with Wiis before, but I gotta say, you don’t know the true pleasure of using one until you own one yourself. Sadly, I only had enough money to buy the Wii, but I am going to borrow some games from my friend soon (hopefully tomorrow). For the record, Wii Boxing ROCKS! True story, my friend and I were boxing, I was playing as Jesus, he was playing as himself. He knocked me down 5 times…5 TIMES! But each time, Jesus got back up, then I finally knock him down once, and he is DOWN. Just goes to show you, you can Jesus beats everyone because YOU CAN’T KEEP JESUS DOWN! Ok, I need to go back to my own little world now. GO NINTENDO! :D
