Webmastering

In a motto: Orbis Non Sufficit.

Personal Introduction

I’m Stephen (metziel), Stencyl’s Webmaster and Lead Web Programmer. Essentially, my job around Stencyl encompasses everything from high-level architecture and planning decisions, down to everyday server administration. I mainly program Stencyl’s web resources in PHP5, though I have been learning Java and can feel my way around Stencyl’s code.

I am currently a junior in high school, making me 17. I was born near Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I still live thereabouts. I am attending a private high school in Minnesota, and although I do not work during the school year, I work in the summers in jobs related to Java programming.

I enjoy all the normal things a 17-year-old does, like driving around and hanging out with friends. It should go without saying that I like programming as well; I program mainly in PHP and MySQL on LAMP servers. When not busy with that, I play defense in my favorite sport, soccer.

As for favorite movies, I have to say Gladiator, Boondock Saints, V for Vendetta, and X-Men 3 are up there, as is 300. I eat basically anything and everything, but I particuarly enjoy pasta, pizza, and a good steak and ceasar salad dinner on special occasions. I’m usually chewing gum or drinking my poisons of choice (Coke, Sunkist, or root beer) as well.

I can’t say I particuarly dislike any kind of music except emo rock, and my playlists vary from movie soundtracks while coding, to Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine, to the more tame Killers and Strokes, to techno that I can only describe as “rampaging,” to whatever I have on mix CDs in between. Naturally, I play computer games, and I like WC3, SC(2), the Half-Life series, Portal, and a good bout of UT2K4 occasionally. I have also dabbled in WoW, but I leave that to people who have more time than I do.
