Small video becomes huge popularity

May 19th, 2008 by Andy G.

I hope this blog doesn’t sound like I’m bragging because I know there are people who worked so hard on their videos but only got a couple of thousand views on it.

This blog post pertains to this video here.

If you read my other blog saying I’ve made the front page of digg… well, that digg for my video made it so popular I am still overwhelmed to how many hits it got and I only expected like 1000 views within a few days. I think it got popular because it was a video that was unique/original and stood out.

So, basically the video that got popular was a copy from the 20 second shorties I did. But with the 20 second shorties is that I rushed it a bit too much and reused the same clip but added a different death scene. Also, with 20 second shorties, I have to stick with my 20 second rule or else it wouldn’t be a 20 second shortie. :P In the edited/extended version, I used that one clip twice since I couldn’t think of what to use the first two deaths scenes with but the other ones I used a different scene.

Mega Man: Changed from blue to red
Q-bert: Nothing was changed
Dragon’s Lair: Ran into the flagpole (Inspired from the Angry Video Game Nerd)
Super Smash Bros.: This was just added in, in this version. Used flash to make it.
Friday the 13th: Have mario run into a koopa instead of a goomba and added more to it instead of “You Are Dead” (again, inspired from the Angry Video Game Nerd)
Paperboy: Final Castle (8-4) Mario was so close of saving peach but he died and called it quits. (probably should of shown that Peach was that close by) Also, fixed the typo of consoles.

Now, back to where I was… After I’ve uploaded, I did like I do normally, sorta. I only had the time to post it on GameTrailers’ forums but didn’t receive much. I forgot to post it on digg and it didn’t get many hits right away within the first to second day it was up. It only had like 500 views at the time being. Then, I woke up yesterday morning and I noticed it had 1000 views but didn’t think anything of it. I looked at my statistics and data under the video and I noticed it showed I had like a few linked coming from digg. I check out digg and noticed my video had got 52 diggs and it was submitted by someone other than me since I never dugg it. I still didn’t think anything of it. I posted on a site, that it got a good amount of diggs but then later, someone replied to that post and congratulated me on making front page on digg… I was basically out of my chair cheering “YEAH!!!!!!!!! WOOO HOO!!!!” It got to like 35,000 views a bit later and I’ve seen tons of people subscribing to me. Then, it went from 35,000 to 81,000 views becoming my second biggest video on youtube (well, on that account). More subscribers came in and I just reached like 100 new subscribers within 24 hours. I was very amazed how to see one video could do that for me. Later I saw it’s been posted on Kotaku’s front page (another popular site but for gaming). The video even got on like the second or first page of youtube’s most viewed today and plus a lot of other pages.

Today I wake up, and it went from 81,000 to 144,000 views and was posted on another popular gaming site called joystick. I then looked at my subscribers and it went a lot more higher to 844. Two days ago, it was at 689 so that’s a total of 155 new subscribers. o.o

All I can just say about all of this is just “Wow!” Who knew something so small, could end up big. I did receive a lot of negative comments but like with all videos, you always get those people leaving bad comments but I don’t mind. I even got a video response from a youtuber saying it was stupid. You can watch that video here. I just find it a bit funny for some reason. :)

Ok, better wrap this up because I typed too much and I don’t think people will read all of this anyhow, probably most will skim through this. :)

All, I can say is for those making videos is to keep trying!

And now, I’ll leave you with some images showing the insight of my video (click to make bigger).

How simple games can be fun

April 19th, 2008 by Andy G.

I was just using stumbleupon on youtube and came across a review of this game called Shift. So, I gave it a try and it turned out to be quite a fun game. It’s a puzzle-like game where you only have 4 basic controls, Right, Left, Jump, and Shift. Basically in Shift, you shift between Black and White until you can get though the puzzle and reach the door at the end.  It  does show how a simple game like this with only 2 colors can be actually quite fun.  It doesn’t take a whole lot of designing to make a fun game.

This was my first time playing so maybe you can easily beat my score/time.

MOH! Where are you!

April 10th, 2008 by Andy G.

If you’ve been wondering where I was for the past 2-3 months, I had no internet and now I just got it back a few days ago.  So, without me having no internet I wasn’t able to upload new videos to youtube and I didn’t have any motivation to make videos but I maybe soon will start making some more.  Also, now I can also get back to stencyl. :)

You Know What I Hate? - Emergency Broadcast System Tests

November 23rd, 2007 by Andy G.

Lets just call this the Funny video of the week since I forgot to post one…

But this is a video of me ranting of how much I hate those Emergency Broadcast Systems. Some people find it funny and some people find it ok.

Warning: Contains some cursing. :D

Wow, this hasn’t happened for a while

November 11th, 2007 by Andy G.

After checking out my YouTube profile I scrolled down the page and I noticed something on my profile. It said “#92 - Most Subscribed (This Week) - Directors”

This hasn’t happened for at least 3-6 months (with my other account).

Finally got into the All Time page on YouTube

November 9th, 2007 by Andy G.

This is very cool! One of my videos actually got into Most Linked (All Time) Science & Technology. Currently I’m #51 but that should probably go up. The bad news however is… where the heck is Science and Technology? I went to youtube categories and it wasn’t there. Recently, YouTube removed Gadget and Games and added the category Science and Technology so my guess is that they still haven’t updated it totally.

The video that got this honor is my “Weird and Stupid Video Game Moments in Video Game History.”

Nintendo DS Emulation just got better!

November 4th, 2007 by Andy G.

I was browsing around a youtube channel and noticed a bulletin about NO$GBA. Well, I went to check it out and then I checked out a site that posts emulation and emulation updates which it still showed an old version. I checked out the main site and noticed I missed two releases so I downloaded the latest. After running it, it was much smoother.  I am getting much higher FPS than before so I was able to play Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, New Super Mario Bros., and Super Princess Peach (I only have a few roms to test it out on but I’ll be doing more testing on other roms later). But man, that’s a huge improvement from the last time.

NOTE: I will not send links to any roms or emulation. If you want it, you must find it. Do not post links in the comments either because I will delete them. Remember, Google is your friend. :)

Edit: Pokemon Diamond seems to work perfect. I also just tested Mario and Luigi Partners in Time and the graphics weren’t great when fighting plus when I saved it crashed.

Trying to get back what I had…

October 30th, 2007 by Andy G.

If you read my last blog you’ll see that I lost everything on youtube because I was suspended. Now comes the hard part of getting that all back. It took over 1 year to get 800+ subscribers and 700+ friends but I’m hoping I can regain it all back with my new account. I had a few backup videos so I’ve decided to reupload them and I’m trying to fix my channel up like it was… It’s pretty tough starting over again from the bottom.

My new account is http://youtube.com/Master0fHyrule (Instead of an “O” I have a Zero.)

The two stencyl videos are back up on youtube once again!

I’m also a bit stumped for what to make.

OH CRAP!!!

October 29th, 2007 by Andy G.

I never thought this would of happened to me but it just did when I signed onto youtube…

I had a clip from the movie “World Trade Center” on youtube where the plane hit the building… well, the video has been up for a long time now and then youtube removed it and suspended my account so all 290 videos, 830+ subscribers, 700+ friends are now gone after working hard for 1 year to reach that amount and so, it’s time to start all over again.

I wish there was a way to get my account back but 99.99999999% chance that it won’t happen. :(

It also means the two stencyl videos I had up on youtube are now gone.  I think I have the originals but won’t upload them.

I hate those video stealers…

October 1st, 2007 by Andy G.

The first video that was stolen from me was the “Making games with stencylworks” video which I didn’t really care about.
Original | Stolen

Then like a week ago or so, I was just browsing GameTrailers making sure no one uploaded my video (Video Game Deaths and Game Over Compilation) there and then I noticed that someone did upload it there but it had “ebaumsworld.com” tagged on it which I forgot to put my name on the video. I got them to remove it off the site but the copies of it still remain on youtube and other places which I can’t get removed…

Then, my video “Halloween Horror Video Game Deaths and Game Over Compilation” was stolen and placed on GameTrailers which I got the person to remove it. Somehow the guy managed to remove my name off of it so it looked like he made the video.

The next video I made was “Terrible Video Game Endings” and guess what… less than 24 hours of it being up, it got stolen from me. But this one still has my name written on it.
Original | Stolen

Will my next video be stolen… I have no idea but there’s always that good chance.
Seems like everytime someone makes a good video, it always seems to be taken.

I’ll still continue making videos even though I might have to somehow find a way where they can’t take them.

I hope this doesn’t sound whining or anything but if you worked hours on a video and it got stolen, you’ll probably be mad. :P
